Napoleon Solo led the way as he and his partner made their way knee-deep through the muck-filled sewage tunnel. The none too tasteful path would allow them a back-door entrance to a small red brickface building in Philadelphia...or so the old map that Kuryakin held seemed to indicate.

Neither man was dressed for the occasion, though they managed to procure boots to protect themselves as they stepped into the water of the Wingshocking sewer system, filled with only who knew what.

The smell however, was a pretty good indicator as to what it was…

Title: Behind the Lens
Author: glennagirl
Prompt: Ben Franklin's Birthday (something related to Ben)
Word Count: 1303

*Ben Franklin invented the bifocal lens when he became annoyed with having to switch back and forth from regular to reading glasses.  Things haven't changed much ;)

A circle of women were standing at the end of the corridor, the voice of one lone speaker rising above the hum of air conditioning and whatever else ran through the walls of Headquarters.  Napoleon Solo walked past and inclined his ear in hopes of hearing what was being said without appearing too nosey.

"It is true, I saw him trying them on.  He looked like John Lennon with those round lenses.  Well, actually he looked quite nice."

It's reader's choice this week from me, and I've chosen one of the 'Working Stiffs' series by Uncle Charlie a.k.a. [livejournal.com profile] spikesgirl58

I'm using this story as a way to recommend the whole series. They are stories which are told from the POV of various members of the U.N.C.L.E support staff. In 'Down in the Mouth', one of our boys is in need of some very dangerous dental work. The reason I picked this particular story was for the last line :-)

The link will take you to ff.net (and on of these days I'll learn how to do one of those fancy link things.)

I'm not sure what made me select this rather dark story, perhaps because it's a rather raw, dark, slushy and cold day today.

Summary: Illya Kuryakin returns a troubled man from a prolonged mission, and Napoleon is determined to find out why and help him. Warning: very minor reference to rape and murder(not graphic) some language. This is one of my more emotional stories.
