Thought posting for this ended Sunday which was, uh, an hour ago. But it was Saturday which was even more yesterday. Sorry. And I'm not completely happy with this either, but as my What's My Line story for this week crashed and burned, I thought I should at least try and post something.

The Abyss Gazes Also

Callous

When Napoleon had been a kid he'd always dreamed of saving the world. No matter where his father was posted he'd never had any trouble finding friends and they would play around the neighbourhood, battling against communists, gangsters, aliens – whoever was the enemy du jour. The good guys always won with their hands clean, the damsel in distress was always saved, and the bad guys died on cue.

The kid he'd been back then would undoubtedly be delighted that he'd grown up to save the world for real. But he'd probably be shocked at everything that sometimes meant.

So, here we are on the last day of August. Where is the year going? I was told when I was a child that time speeds up the older you get. I thought that was a cool; not so much now.

Speaking of time, how about putting some aside to write a short story for next Monday (7th)? The prompts and rules are, as ever, hidden down there under the cut. I’m sure everyone can create a story, set in the world of U.N.C.L.E., based around the first word.

There is still more than enough time to join in with today's posts, and those prompts can be found right here.

Stories which fall into the categories of Het, romance or AU can be posted in the Map Room. Remember to leave a link for it on Section VII.

Have fun.

As they were led between the desks in the main office of Locke Electronics, by Fiona Richards, Illya squinted at the glare from the walls.

“Who on Earth thought orange was a good colour for office space?” he complained.

The chosen shade hardly seemed conducive to any sort of concentration and it felt, to him, as though they were walking through a tangerine. Although Waverly agreed with the sentiment, he didn’t say so.

“We aren’t here to critique the décor, Mr Kuryakin.”

Chastised, Illya fell silent. Miss Richards showed the two men into the opulent office of Jacob Locke.

“If you would care to wait in here gentlemen, Mr Locke will be with you presently.”

He woke up feeling groggy and hungover; shading his eyes with his hand from the bright orange of the morning sun...or was it afternoon, that was glaring through his hotel window.

I'm going to be away for the next week so I won't be around. Just in case anyone wonders.

Prompt Word/Colour - Groggy/Orange

Dogs Filled With Clockwork

“I will never understand,” Napoleon announced exasperatedly. “How you can just shrug off a bullet wound, but get every last cold or flu bug that's going around.”

Illya opened one eye to squint at him from his position curled up under a mound of blankets. “It is because I was created to suffer,” he said, half seriously, his voice choked and stuffy. His head was killing him and his throat and nose felt unpleasantly scratchy.
