Just popping in to put up the guidelines for our last LIFECYCLE Challenge of the year, which has a theme of DENIAL.

The theme of DENIAL is pretty wide-open when it comes to the life of spies who constantly have to consider life-and-death situations. Do the guys sometimes purposely (or subconsciously) deny what the after-effects of one of their missions might be on "regular folks" who might be involved? Or do they indeed deny how those missions change their own personalities, perhaps not for the better? Those are questions to ponder indeed.

With that in mind, here are the guidelines for the LIFECYCLE: Denial seasonal challenge that will run from Saturday, September 16th through Saturday, September 23rd.

CHALLENGE: Write an MFU fanfic story regarding the idea of DENIAL. The story doesn't have to necessarily mention or include the actual term; just embody a scenario that fits the concept behind it. Do, however, place the term DENIAL in a comment at the start of the story for clarity.

STATISTICAL STUFF: Minimum of 500 words with no set maximum. (Drabbles are not incorporated in this particular challenge.) Must fit into the overall concepts of this community, i.e., contain no explicit adult material and reflect the 1960s series in style and content. Please tag your story with the lifecycle tag.

Just a reminder that posting for LIFECYCLE: Awakening Challenge is now open on [livejournal.com profile] section7mfu.

Please be sure and give your post a subject reflective of the challenge (including a title for the story itself). Do use the lifecycle tag to identify your story. As a courtesy, please remember to place the majority of your story under a cut.

Posting for the challenge will remain open through next Saturday, June 24th.

With my current schedule, I was not able to compose something for this particular challenge myself, but I look forward to reading the stories.

With our first LIFECYCLE Challenge now history (and a big thank you to those who participated), time to set the guidelines for the second LIFECYCLE Challenge, which has a theme of AWAKENING.

Through we have just awakened into the spring season, the second challenge in this 2017 LIFECYCLE series won't awake until the summer season begins its reign. So you have lots of time to consider the particular turns and twists of this writing challenge. ;-)

The theme of AWAKENING can refer to a physical awakening, such as one or both of the guys returning from the realm of near-death to the realm of life. Or alternatively it could bespeak a more philosophical mental or emotional awakening of some type.

With that in mind, here are the guidelines for the LIFECYCLE: Awakening seasonal challenge.

CHALLENGE: Write an MFU fanfic story regarding the idea of AWAKENING. The story doesn't have to necessarily mention or include the actual term; just embody a scenario that fits the concept behind it. Do, however, place the term AWAKENING in a comment at the start of the story for clarity.

Ever wonder what the corridors of UNCLE would say if they could.  Well sit back and rest a spell.

Hello there.   Glad you could join us.   I was just explaining to these agents here that people say if walls could talk what tales we would tell.   Well if anyone were to ask, I’d be more than happy to share some of my favorite stories with them.

Just a reminder that our first LIFECYCLE of the year, that encompassing COMPANIONSHIP, opens for posting here on [livejournal.com profile] section7mfu this Saturday, March 18th, remaining open through Saturday, March 25th.

Guidelines for the LIFECYCLE: COMPANIONSHIP seasonal challenge can be found here.

In the words of Amelia Earhart: The more one does and sees and feels, the more one is able to do, and the more genuine may be one's appreciation of fundamental things like home, and love, and understanding companionship.

So since the guys have seen more than most and are also definitely doers, seems they would have a well-developed appreciation for companionship in all its forms, no?

Ah, another year, another seasonal challenge and this year it will be a series of 3 LIFECYCLE Challenges!

The first foray into this challenge for 2017 hinges on the prompt of COMPANIONSHIP.

COMPANIONSHIP is something we all hope for and hopefully appreciate when we find it. It may be different than what we expect, but it is something that makes life as a human being more appealing and memorable.

So without further ado, here are the guidelines for the LIFECYCLE: Companionship seasonal challenge.

CHALLENGE: Write an MFU fanfic story regarding the idea of Companionship. The story doesn't have to necessarily mention or include the actual term; just embody a scenario that fits the concept behind it. Do, however, place the term COMPANIONSHIP in a comment at the start of the story for clarity.

Since my work schedule is rather hectic right now, I am going to schedule just 3 seasonal writing challenges for 2017. These will be LIFECYCLE Challenges.

For those unfamiliar with LIFECYCLE, the concept is based roughly on the idea of the "circle of life" in that I provide a prompt relating in some way to a facet of human living. Thus stories under this challenge would be able to contain a very broad range of perspectives on any given aspect of life.

Below is is the schedule for 2017.

PROMPT POSTING PERIOD
Companionship Sat, Mar 18 through Sat, Mar 25
Awakening Sat, Jun 17 through Sat, Jun 24
Denial Sat, Sep 16 through Sat, Sep 23

Thought posting for this ended Sunday which was, uh, an hour ago. But it was Saturday which was even more yesterday. Sorry. And I'm not completely happy with this either, but as my What's My Line story for this week crashed and burned, I thought I should at least try and post something.

The Abyss Gazes Also

Callous

When Napoleon had been a kid he'd always dreamed of saving the world. No matter where his father was posted he'd never had any trouble finding friends and they would play around the neighbourhood, battling against communists, gangsters, aliens – whoever was the enemy du jour. The good guys always won with their hands clean, the damsel in distress was always saved, and the bad guys died on cue.

The kid he'd been back then would undoubtedly be delighted that he'd grown up to save the world for real. But he'd probably be shocked at everything that sometimes meant.

Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear the most ~ Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky.

Change was something which had long since ceased to induce fear in Illya Nickovitch Kuryakin. At least, he had thought so. As he stood in front of Del Floria’s Tailor Shop, which was the entrance to the New York headquarters of U.N.C.L.E., Illya felt something he hadn’t known in a long time. His chest constricted, his stomach churned, and he felt colder than a Siberian winter. When he’d stepped from the plane, onto American soil, the fear had tried to emerge then. Illya had pushed it back, telling himself he had nothing to be afraid of. He may be a Soviet, but he was an invited Soviet. He was also already an U.N.C.L.E. agent, and this was merely a change of headquarters. He really had nothing to fear; not when compared to the events of his life until that point.

A good many people are afraid of spiders, something scientists point to as an ‘ancestral memory,’ one of many fears that prehistoric predecessors of the human race lived with on a daily basis. These ancestral memories are the snakes, spiders, and angry faces that haunt our nightmares.

Why such creatures terrified modern men and women was a conundrum really.  There were estimated to be less than two hundred of the known species of spider in the entire world, somewhere in the range out of thirty thousand, that posed serious medical concerns for healthy humans, with about one hundred fifty or so confirmed fatalities a year worldwide.

Considering the odds when compared to the number of people of the world, they seemed pretty low and yet the fear remained.

The LIFECYCLE: HUMOR seasonal challenge is in the books and I was really thrilled to see the large response it got! It seemed to have struck a chord with writers, resulting in many entertaining stories. Hopefully this final LIFECYCLE challenge will as well.

The subject for this last LIFECYCLE seasonal challenge is FEAR.

As we all know, FEAR can be a very personal thing. There are always things that spook us particularly that might not affect others in the same way. So it's time to delve into the secret dreads and private terrors in the LIFECYCLE of our favorite fearless men from U.N.C.L.E.

Here are the guidelines for the LIFECYCLE: FEAR seasonal challenge.

CHALLENGE: Write an MFU fanfic story regarding the idea of Fear. The story doesn't have to necessarily mention or include the actual term; just embody a scenario that fits the concept behind it. Do, however, place the term FEAR in a comment at the start of the story for clarity.
