I hope this sounds okay. I'm not entirely satisfied with it, but I'm also not sure how I could write it differently. I've been playing in other pastures for the most part lately, so I'm a little worried my Napoleon may sound rusty....

Chapter 9 )

I was going to write this anyway, but after the weekend I turned it into a Robert Vaughn/Napoleon Solo tribute.

Illya's hopes for a quiet evening after the weird day don't happen, for several reasons ... not all of them involving his unwelcome guest.

Ghosts turning up in the workplace is generally not a good idea.

I love posting on October 13th, the second spookiest day of the month even when it isn't on a Friday! Buwahaha....

I don't know if this is strong enough for a "Gen-Mature", but because of a couple of paragraphs I figured I'd better just be on the safe side and use it....

Talking to a persistent wandering spirit can get very awkward, especially when others start hearing and wondering what's going on....

A vignette series I've wanted to start for some time, sort of following up on and expanding the ideas in my well-liked oneshot The Mist of Yesterday. I decided Halloween season was the perfect time to actually go ahead and write it.

Hello )

As they approached Napoleon’s car, the same figure in the pea coat was there, his hands spread as he leaned forward on the hood. In the light, both agents recognized him now.

“Mr. Ecks*,” Illya said in distaste.

“To what do we owe this visit?” Napoleon deadpanned. “And have you taken up a new occupation?”

“I’m undercover,” the ex-enemy agent replied. “That’s how I overheard that chap playing back that recorded conversation.”

“What did he look like?” Illya demanded.

“Tall, dark suit, leaning against a red convertible. Not your average dockworker. But you look like you were just working in a warehouse, Kuryakin.”

Illya scowled. “I was in that house,” he said, pointing. “Do you know who’s been using it?”

“A lot of people use it,” said Ecks. “Delinquent kids, mostly. But I’m guessing you weren’t abducted by them.”

Illya took a threatening step and Ecks straightened. “Renegade dockworkers have also been using it. They could work for THRUSH. Then again, they might work for someone else. I’m investigating.”

“I suppose it’s too much to hope that you will share your future findings with us,” Napoleon said.

“If our paths keep crossing, who’s to say.” Ecks vanished into the shadows.

*From The Odd Man Affair. The blond one in my icon....

Cutting this down from 305 to 200 words was quite an experience. But I have to do that all the time at work, so it was good practice....

I hope this looks alright; I had to take things in a different direction since I am really not familiar with Soviet states or Cold War details. Hopefully it will bring up some nice possibilities to work with anyway, especially considering the very first chapter? Perhaps the one who did the bugging was not THRUSH....

Chapter 4

With Illya still occupied, Napoleon headed for the door. “Call me when you have it figured out.”

“Where are you going?” Illya frowned at Napoleon’s reflection.

“Just to gather what else I may need for our little off-the-record excursion.”

Napoleon stepped into the hall. The lightbulb had given up the ghost, rendering the corridor a dark maze. The figure leaning against the wall fit the scene perfectly.

“You and Kuryakin love to stir up hornets’ nests, don’t you?”

Napoleon tensed. “To which hornet’s nest are you referring?”

He could almost feel the sneer in the dark. “I know you’re going into Little Russia against Waverly’s orders. Don’t worry. I won’t interfere. I just thought I should tell you: if I know what you’re doing, your enemies might as well.”

“I see. Would you mind telling me how you know?”

“I don’t mind. You should have considered that something was bugged.”

Napoleon stared. “Illya’s apartment?”

“Or your car. Or your apartment. I didn’t bug anything; I just overheard someone playing a conversation he recorded.” The figure melted into the shadows.

“Hey, wait!” Napoleon yelled. But he was already gone.

Reeling from this development, Napoleon went to tell Illya the grim news.

Finally got warmed up enough to start the follow-up to The Peaceful Meadows Affair from this past summer. As with that fic, some chapters may use prompts here, if they plunnie me for the story. :)

Title: The Fifty-Millionth Frenchman Affair, chapter one
Summary: Follow-up to The Peaceful Meadows Affair. Napoleon, Illya, and company have been sent to Los Angeles in search of Ms. Cue. The last thing they expected to find was that Illya has a double living in the city.

Hello )
[identity profile] insaneladybug.livejournal.com
And this is what happens when I want to write some kind of ghost story and get plunnied in the middle of the night.... Sorry.... It always seems to happen right near the end/after the end of a challenge. But then I do tend to celebrate Halloween through November 2nd, so it's still on time for me.... ;)

Title: The Mist of Yesterday

Summary: Illya doesn't really like being awakened in the middle of the night by ghosts he's met.

In Season Two's "The Bat Cave Affair," Count Zark is infuriated to realize that Illya Kuryakin is unfamiliar with him. "I have fantasies of UNCLE giving orders: 'Get Zark at any price!' and here you've never even heard of me!"

The challenge is: Write a story that explains why Zark felt he was, or should have been, one of UNCLE's most wanted.

Clearly I was sleep-deprived when I wrote this... )

I seem to recall that in the past it was okay to write for previous PicFic prompts as long as they were posted on Tuesdays? I only got plunnied for this one when last Tuesday was almost over, and then the week was nuts, so I only had the chance to write this one this morning. The current prompt is intriguing too, and maybe I'll be able to get something written for it with its extended posting time. :)

Title: The Cat on the Flagpole Affair
Rating: K/G
Summary: Every ordinary day should include getting an adventurous Siamese down from a flagpole, shouldn't it?
