I was toying with this and realized it would fit the prompts for today, so I extended it and worked the prompts in. It's the beginning of a random story I got the idea for recently. I'll probably expand it more if I make a full-fledged first chapter out of it. (And the Round Robin is tempting me to do just that, let me tell you....)

It sort of follows the timeline I set up starting with The Return from the Dead Affair. Ecks and Wye are basically private detectives in New York City because no other spy organization will hire them after they betrayed their organization in The Odd Man Affair. LOL. Of course, this causes them to cross paths with Napoleon and Illya more times than any of them would like.

A Little Inaction

There were some advantages to sharing an office with Illya, Napoleon had found. Not least that when he was dealing with the unpleasant task of post-mission analysis, the sight of his partner sitting just to their right and fixing them with an unwavering stare had a way of encouraging junior agents to be more forthcoming, no matter how badly they had messed up.

Short Affair PROMPTS for Oct 12th

So, we’re five days into October already. How did that happen? To forget about the time flying by, how about writing a short story. It’s only 300 to 1000 words, easy-peasy :-D

You’ll find the prompts, for stories due on October 12th, beneath the cut. I don’t know what the fates were thinking when they gave me the two words on offer, but they both scream ‘Illya-whump’ to me. Then again, most things do.

Title: One of those days

Word Count: Approximately 850

The sky was filled with the bright red glow from the flames of the burning THRUSH satrapy. It was their mission to destroy it and that they did.

Not met with any obstacle; Solo and his partner the Russian, Kuryakin had gotten inside the building, set their charges and got out scot free without so much as a scratch or a tear in Napoleon’s clothing. That was a pleasant rarity in and of itself.

All in all they counted this as a good day. It wasn’t often they completed an assignment with their hides intact. The agents were filled with a feeling of satisfaction that only success could bring, that was until they heard the sound of weapons being cocked from behind them.

Time seemed to freeze as all eyes fixated on the weapon in Napoleon’s hand. All eyes, bar the doctor’s that was.

“Is the threat of violence supposed to induce me to change my opinion,” Hawkes sneered, with derision. “I saw plenty of guns in Korea, where I witnessed first-hand what communism did to our troops. I was the one patching them up in a M.A.S.H. unit.”

“Let me assure you, the substance on my nails is non-lethal.”

“In that case, sweet dreams love.” April felt a great deal of satisfaction darting Angelique in the derriere. I’ll leave these three for the clean-up crew, she thought.

After a sweep of the warehouse, April determined that someone was in the process of building a bomb on the premises. It hadn’t been armed yet. She put in a call to her boss.

Meanwhile, Illya concluded his interrogation with Agent Harty and entering Waverly’s office, he found Sylvia Barton. Another suspicious fortune had been found, it was the address for Hurley’s Bar. April’s call came through at that moment.

“That’s about it, sir. I’ve tried contacting Solo and Slate but they haven’t answered.

“Why would Angelique choose one site over another, unless... it’s a trap!” Illya surmised.

“All right, Miss Dancer. Go directly to Hurley’s Bar. Mr. Kuryakin will meet you there. Use utmost caution, both of you.”

Mark and Napoleon had found the bar abandoned and boarded up. Once inside, they were accosted by an unknown, shadowy figure.

When Illya and April arrived forty minutes later, they stood in the street and stared.

Hurley’s Bar was totally engulfed in flames.
