Awwww, Napoleon really is a true friend!

Oddly enough my 'mother tongue' (if you could call it that in a way) is not the way English is spoken in this part of the state. I was born in Queens NY and came to NJ with my family at the age of 6 but I still find that when I'm with my relations from New York I fall right into their speech patterns. I guess it's something that I retained from my parents and much older brothers.

Though my NY cousins probably still think I sound like "a Joisy girl." Eye and ear of the beholder I guess.

I'm still in the town I was born in, so my speech and accent is pretty much the same as everyone else's. My kid sister one the other hand has lived all over the country. her English and accent veer wildly, depending on who she's talking to.

That makes sense. Thinking about it further I notice my speech pattern changes if I'm around anyone from Ireland (speaking English that is)
