Roll Call - 4/7/20

Still at it, and we're all still waiting for the end of this peculiar and troublesome time.

I think some people are quite content, in spite of the obvious concerns, to be hunkering down at home in the comfort of their own company.  For those of us who live alone anyway, it isn't such a stretch.  Admittedly, the only thing missing for me right now is going to work a few days a week; otherwise, my schedule isn't that different.

I did bake some muffins this morning, added strawberries to the mix and am pretty well pleased with them.  I know people keep saying that baking is a precise craft and you must follow a recipe.  I know that, I just don't always do it.  Some self-rising flour, brown sugar, an egg and almond milk all mixed up to what seemed to be the right consistency... I added some ground ginger and cinnamon to it and a pinch more baking powder for good measure... literally ;) The one on the right is a little deformed, but it went down just fine.

A little butter and a cup of coffee, it was a nice start to the day.

So, is anyone else doing any baking, or cooking differently from the norm?  Sometimes a little creativity goes a long way to making us feel better satisfied.

There was no flour to be had anywhere, last time I looked for it in the supermarket. My husband made three wholemeal loaves the other day, which will last us for a while, but I'll have to keep my eyes open - we aren't supposed to venture out to shop more than a couple of times a week, so I'm likely to miss it. Commercially produced bread is available, but it's rubbish - all air.
