I'm following glennagirls suit today.  She's dealing with some family issues and will need your prayers and good wishes.

So much has been going on that has been affecting all our lives, whether it covid, mother nature running amok, political unrest, personal problems and so much more. It doesn't make for a lot of inspiration to write MFU right now, does it?

I know a few of us are experiencing stress and upset. All we can do is keep each other in mind and do a lot of praying.

I've been under lockdown since March (like many of you) with only quick forays out to the grocery store and pharmacy. The solitude isn't overwhelming, most of the time. Sometimes I have cabin fever; there's a few places I could go hang out but I find that unappealing. I think it's human companionship that I miss.  I miss going to the pub twice a month to play Irish trad music. We tried a Zoom session, but it just didn't work.

I'm dealing more health issues, or I should say greater issues. Many of you know I'm diabetic but you may not know that I have chronic kidney disease. It was decided it was time for me to see a nephrologist. So now lots more tests and bloodwork in the near future.  I'm buckling down on my diet as I haven't been as careful as I should.

My diet will now be quite minimalistic with so many foods that I absolutely have to avoid. Sigh.  I'll manage, but it's going to be a lot of work.

So now that I've filled you in a little bit on my trials and tribulations, how about you? What's going on with you? Good things, bad things?  Why not comment and let us know how you all are?

Still here

Still here and virus free.

49 of our 67 counties have already moved to Yellow which allows for a lot more movement, but still keeping some social distancing. Can't be too hard in counties with less than 200,000 people. My county is staying at Red lockdown for now, but our new cases are slowing down too. It looks like the curve is actually trending downward across most of the state. Maybe my county will move to Yellow in early June if everyone behaves.

I've been getting groceries by delivery or contactless pickup. There were weird shortages at first but getting back to normal now. Still hard to get toilet paper and paper towels, but I had a good supply pre-pandemic, so can last another couple weeks. I did end up with more cat food and litter than I need, so now that supply is getting back to normal,I plan to take some to the local Humane Society for their pet food bank. They provide the free pet food all the time, but now more people need it.

Cataract surgery is now re-re-scheduled for June 10, but could still change. I need to get the cat to the vet for his rabies shot and tooth cleaning soon too.

Here we are in the days before Memorial Day Weekend, and the world is beginning to open up just a little.  I saw on the news yesterday that Italy is attempting to get back to some semblance of normal, and people were shown being nearly giddy at the sense of freedom they were experiencing for the first time in two months.

I'm curious how things are going elsewhere, if anyone is venturing out as the stores and restaurants begin to open for business.  Hopefully the small businesses that have been forced into closing can still survive.  I have a good friend who has been hanging onto a thread during this, and was rewarded by a kindness from her landlord to be given free rent for as long as it takes.  The benefit of owning a building allows for this sort of graciousness, and one hopes that it is more common than we know.

Personally, my own employer, Pier 1 Imports, was already in Chapter 11 bankruptcy when this started, and as of a few days ago had announced stores won't be re-opening until at least June 1.  They need to be able to open at least 50% of the stores before considering a definite date.  So, more time to figure out my next step to develop my own brand.  I see Etsy in my future.

Tell us then, what's the status in your area?

I hope this finds everyone still sheltering safely.  The sun is out here after several days of rain.  I keep thinking that perhaps the rain is washing away the danger of this virus, so that when the sun comes out we have some respite from it.

I admit without shame to being an optimist.

We have challenges here on Section VII.  Another admission, I haven't written anything lately.  My creative pursuits seem to be lingering around very tactile pursuits, needle work and papercrafting. I am going to try and get to a short affair today, after I return from my driving duties.  It's a day for my cousin's dialysis appointment, so that will be about five hours out of the day.  Thankfully, it's something that can be accomplished; another reason for gratitude in the midst of the Coronavirus disruption.

Let's hear from all of you, keeping in touch is so very encouraging.

Here it is, the middle of the work week and... oh wait, most of us aren't working.

What are you doing during this hiatus?  I'm trying to stay creative, and I really need to do some writing.  We have a Song Story prompt up, the weekly Short Affair and, I think Once Upon A Time is back.  Chime in on your challenges please, I'm probably not completely up to date.

If you're not writing, what are you reading?  Do we need some additional links for stories that haven't been seen in a while?  Let me know, we have archives, the Way Back Machine has stories that go back decades.

Let's check in.

It's a day with sunshine here, that same gentle breeze from yesterday that didn't turn into a wicked storm.  I'm thankful for that.

For some of us it's a sacred day, Good Friday. It's a day of hope, something that might help to chase away thoughts of doom, comfort others who have had to deal with fear and grief during this season of unusual events.

For the Bunny Crowd, I hope you are able to share some of the delights of an Easter holiday.  Perhaps you're in a place where family isn't completely cut off, I hope so.  For others, maybe at least get a good dose of chocolate eggs or jelly beans.  There's so much to love about Easter, regardless of one's faith affiliation, or lack of it.

As always, please share your thoughts, your insights and status here with us.

Another day for us in this battle with what is, essentially, a cold on steroids.  I posted a very informative video yesterday, you might want to check it out.

We have a perfect breeze ruffling through the trees today. My wind chimes are tinkling and it almost seems like the breeze could sweep away what has been troubling us.

I hope your day is a good one, feel free to fill us in.

I'm a little late getting to our Roll Call for the day.  I drive my cousin's wife to dialysis on Monday and Wednesday every week.  The center is in Bowling Green, and it gives me an opportunity to get to the grocery at least, and I shop for Betty as well.

Is anyone feeling more encouraged with anything?  I've read a few reports about decreasing numbers in NYC, and certainly the warmer days were predicted to help derail the virus itself.  I hope so, I remain optimistic about things turning around sooner than later.

Did I mention Marian's relative being tested positive?  The woman's daughter is a nurse and speculation was that she was exposed to the virus by her, which put everyone in quarantine.  Fran had pneumonia and wasn't looking good, but thankfully things did turn around and she's been given the all clear, no longer positive and by now back home.  Everyone is clear.  So, there are some good reports.

Speaking of Marian, like others she's pretty isolated.  I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in exchanging some old fashioned mail, just postcards or something simple to cheer everyone on.  Let me know if you like the idea, and we'll set up a mailing list via Messenger here on LJ.

Check out the prompts for the Short Affair, and the new Song Story prompts.  You can use the tags to get there, or just scroll through things.  And the Archives will show you all our activity for every day we've been here.

We've been in this new normal for a while now, and I'm wondering if anyone is feeling as though it qualifies as such.  Is social distancing a habit now, or do we struggle to not reach out and touch, shake hands or simply offer a physical gesture of support and encouragement?

I'm on my way out the door to our church service; no one there except the musicians and pastor, two techies that make it all turn into a live feed.  People feel connected through it, making comments throughout and even prayer requests.  It's amazing to me knowing this is going on around the world, thanks to the available and prevailing technology.

Passover begins on Wednesday, and the significance of an observation that recalls a time when the blood of a lamb, sacrificed and made the family meal, was placed on the doorposts and lintels of those ancient homes in order for death to bypass them, cannot be ignored during this current plague.  Easter, which falls next Sunday within the borders of Passover, celebrates another sacrifice, described as God's Passover Lamb, whose blood saves not only one group, but the world.  This compels me to believe in a passover for us, by whatever miracle of science might bring it about.

It's Saturday, much of the world is staying home and avoiding anything that might be potentially hazardous to our health.  Social distancing is now a real thing, with tape on the floors of groceries and any place where people are doing business and need to remain at that safe, prescribed distance apart.

Let's follow the rules and be safe. And let us hear from you, tell us what's happening in your world.

Just Roll Call today, the other dailies are going to get a bye on this Friday.

We're still here, and hopefully we can all continue to touch base, as it were, to encourage and keep up with one another.  Marian's aunt Fran was released from the hospital after pneumonia and testing positive on the virus.    Marian is predictably grateful and continuing to lift them up for the good report to remain intact.

It's a sunny day here, and I'm pretty sure it's warmer outside than inside of my old house.  I have to run out for a bit later on, so will soak up some sun and warmth while I walk up to the church. We're live streaming some music at 4pm, an opportunity to encourage and hopefully inspire a few folk to keep on keeping on.

One of our members is an outrageously talented pianist named Jeff Stice.  He's been in the music business for decades, primarily in Southern Gospel circles where he has been awarded and lauded for his musicianship.  Happily, he's a Brownsville boy and recently moved back here, and has joined my church.  I've had the privilege of playing with him lately as he has joined us in our music ministry during this unusual time.  It is one of the unexpected high points of an otherwise troublesome time, but I'm enjoying playing with a musician of his caliber and talent.

Small favors I suppose.

We're well into this thing, and as the numbers rise I feel confident that people grow increasingly uneasy.  Marian, aka mrua7, says 'Hi', thanks you all for the virtual support as she makes her way through an apartment full of boxes, trying to find a way to unpack without the advantage of being able to put trash and empty boxes outside her door.  The task is made more difficult by the lock down she is under in New Jersey.

As I look out my window this morning I see that my pastor, who lives across the street, has just returned from delivering food to the homes of students in the county, those who are normally given subsidies during the school year. Our church began a summer program two years ago, and now the school board has asked us to step in and resume the program during the school closings.  We've had a donation of $3000 to help in the effort that we share with several other congregations and the school system.  All hands on deck.

I hope you're well, safe inside of your homes, possibly able to get outdoors periodically and breathe some fresh air.  It isn't possible for everyone, and so I've found a lovely video for you to enjoy, flying over Scotland.

Please continue to check in here, or in a new post with anything you'd like to share here with everyone.  A video, a story you've found or written... something to offer comfort and encouragement.

We've been taking roll for several days, and the response has been terrific.  It's so good to hear from our cousins and know how things are going for all of us.  We'll continue to have Roll Call throughout this time of troubling headlines and fractured lives.

This isn't just a one time thing, Section VII is re-tooling just as many industries are doing.  We are a community, and so your posts can range from stories about MFU or your own personal accounts of how life is reflecting the current state of the world.

Roll Call is for our daily journal of living through this trying time, and hopefully the support and sharing will help us all carry on, and triumph over a very concerning episode in our lives.

The Comm is open, we want to hear from you.  If you haven't already read the comments being posted on the original Roll Call, find them HERE

You are invited to share your journey with the tag roll call.

[identity profile] glennagirl.livejournal.com
I'm so glad that we've heard from a good number of the community as responses to Roll Call have come in.  I invite everyone to check in with us, let us know how it's going as we collectively huddle against the onslaught of this virus.
I hope you'll embrace the possibility that what is evil to the core (possibly a THRUSH concoction, yet again), will not destroy us, and  that the shared love of our Men from UNCLE will fuel our hope and imaginations to see that good does overcome in real life as well as fiction.
If you haven't yet checked in, please let us hear from you.  We are a community, and that implies our care and concern for one another.  Although our purpose on Section VII has been as a writing site, please feel free to share here if you need to reach out or just ramble a little about life.  We'll repurpose in order to better serve the needs of the community.
I'm believing for the best, that in spite of the misery and heartache we've seen from Covid-19, there is hope that it will be eradicated. I don't hold to doom, and count the human spirit and the grace available to us as reason to look up and not be downcast or defeated.
Marian has informed me last night that one of her relatives has been diagnosed with the virus, and has possibly been exposed to it by her daughter, who is a nurse at one of the hospitals.  Please keep Frannie Lawlor in your prayers, held up in your most positive and generous thoughts. It's one thing to read the numbers and know that it is nearby, quite another to put a face to it from among your own friends and families.
If any of you have a similar connection, please let us know.  Those of us who pray will do so, and those who can generate the positive energies of faith and goodwill can add to our collective higher selves.
We're a community, we'll love and support one another.
Glenna

We've been taking roll over here, and we're happy to be hearing from members and readers on Section VII.  Please feel free to add your name and how you're doing during this Virus Watch we're all experiencing.  It's one thing to see the stats, know that people drop by and read, but there's a real concern and desire to know that we're all doing well.
You can add your comments at our Roll Call

Let's stay well and wise.
