Still here

Still here and virus free.

49 of our 67 counties have already moved to Yellow which allows for a lot more movement, but still keeping some social distancing. Can't be too hard in counties with less than 200,000 people. My county is staying at Red lockdown for now, but our new cases are slowing down too. It looks like the curve is actually trending downward across most of the state. Maybe my county will move to Yellow in early June if everyone behaves.

I've been getting groceries by delivery or contactless pickup. There were weird shortages at first but getting back to normal now. Still hard to get toilet paper and paper towels, but I had a good supply pre-pandemic, so can last another couple weeks. I did end up with more cat food and litter than I need, so now that supply is getting back to normal,I plan to take some to the local Humane Society for their pet food bank. They provide the free pet food all the time, but now more people need it.

Cataract surgery is now re-re-scheduled for June 10, but could still change. I need to get the cat to the vet for his rabies shot and tooth cleaning soon too.

I found two short (well, under 500 words) bits of nonsense I wrote a while back and cleaned them up a bit. They are posted on AO3 and I'll try to get them up on the UNCLE Fan Fiction Archive too.

Sometimes I get what seems like a good idea for a story, but as I start fleshing it out, it starts to seem very familiar. I will start to feel pretty sure that I have read a similar story at some point even if I can't find it. (I have a pretty good memory for things I've read, so I could easily have read it a couple years ago.)

I don't want to accidentally take over someone else's story, but there are a limited number of possible plots unless you go to AU. For example: Napoleon and Illya are hiding from THRUSH in a deserted cabin and one of them is hurt.

Does this happen to other people? How much do you worry about using a similar situation as long as you put your own spin on it?

I finally figured out how to post my AO3 account and I think I even made the stories public so people can actually read them if they wish. Then I think I figured out how to post to Section 7 here on DW. Yay brain!! (unless I have totally screwed up.)

My muse is still vacationing somewhere, but in her absence I have managed to edit and post three parts of the Exit Wounds series on AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/users/threecee
I will enter them in the Man from UNCLE Fan Fiction Archive soon. I have a fourth part in progress, but I'm not sure where it goes from there.

My muse has been gone so long that I thought she was dead. Then the combination of reminiscing with an old friend about the good old days at the library and reading some MfU fic, suddenly revived her. Not sure that was a good thing.

Anyway, I posted the resulting short story at the MfU Fan Fiction Archives at http://www.mfuarchive.net/archive/6/aquiet.html if anyone is feeling brave.

(I can't figure out how to import a large clump of text here.)

A birthday present for Illya. Hope you don't already have a complete recording of this Romani jazz musician's works.

Warnings: I think this might require the creation of a Gen - Immature classification.

The following memo surfaced after a comment Sparky955 made about Enforcement agents "going to the bathroom like everyone else". So it is HER fault.

United Network Command for Law and Enforcement
Interoffice Memo

To: Mr. Waverly
From: Paul Robbins

Dear Mr. Waverly,

Sorry to bother you, but I got a big problem with the bathrooms, if you excuse me mentioning them.
Them Section 2 gentlemen is heroes and all, and we all respects them, but they sure do make a mess in the bathroom. Yesterday, Nathan jest finish cleaning the mens room on level 3 when Mr. Solo and Mr. Kayeakin came in. They was arguing about shooting and Mr. Solo he says as how he can face the mirror and make a shot that hit the cake in the urinal. Well he pulls out his gun and shoots back over his shoulder. Smash up all the bran new cakes that was jest put in and scare Nathan half to death cause he was close to the urinals. Then Mr. Kayakin, he jumps right up on the end sink and flip over so he standing on his hands. Then he stand on one hand and use the urinal for what you suppose to do, but upside down on the sink! He hit it right enough, but not all the way because he so far away and Nathan had jest mopped the floor.

Then I send Curtis to clean it up because Nathan needed a break for his nerves and he hardly finishes when Mr. Slate and Mr. Kittridge come in and they start on wrestling and knock down one of the stalls and breaks a soap dispenser all over the floor. Whats Curtis supposed to do?

Now Nathan and Curtis say they won’t never clean the mens bathrooms again. Says they quit first. And it no good asking Ida to do it cause she still not over that exploding lipstick in the ladies. We all know we not to touch Section 2s or there stuff, but how was Ida to know it was Miss Dancer dropped it?

So please Mr. Waverly, you got to talk to the Section 2 folks and asks them not to do Section 2 stuff in the bathrooms. Just like Madge had you tell em about the cafeteria after exploding meatloaf last month.

Yours truly,
Paul Robbins

Meeting on an Ornamental Bridge

He stared at his reflection in the tranquil lake, breathing slowly and deeply, trying to calm his turbulent thoughts. A partner! An arrogant, smug, American partner! He had thought Alexander Waverly respected him, so why wouldn’t Waverly let him work alone as he always had?

He stormed through the park. A partner! Waverly had forced a partner on him! A skinny young Russian egghead! Waverly knew he worked best alone! ...Speak of the devil!

“I just want you to know, I have nothing against you personally. I just prefer to work alone. Just don’t mess up in the field and get our reports in on time and we’ll get along.”

“I also prefer to work alone. However, as long as you don’t ‘mess up’ I’ll bring you back alive, mission permitting, of course.”

“Of course. Want to get a drink?”

“You are buying? Very well.”

[I hope I'm not posting in the wrong place at the wrong time. I think this was originally started for a Picfic that I should have finished a long time ago.]

The slight man in black wove his way between the trees and undergrowth assisted by light from the full moon filtering through the trees. His body ached with fatigue and the tension of trying to combine silence with haste. The enemy was close behind. He still wasn't certain how many there were, but he had recognized one of them: a top enemy agent, cunning and ruthless. They had been following him since the ambush at the first rendezvous point. He had barely escaped and now his only goal was to survive long enough to get the information to the backup contact.
