Man from UNCLE Walkathon!
Feb. 9th, 2021 04:26 pmI got in a short walk yesterday, but today's been a bust as it's snowing and raining off and on. Tomorrow snow is predicted as well so I've decided to walk the corridors of my apartment building as there's 12 floors (I live on the 11th) So I can get some indoor walking done!
Please, if you are walking as well to fight off the weight gain from eating too much while staying home, or for any other reason; by all mean, please post a comment on the walkathon updates to let us know how you're doing. We're in this together cousins!

"Where is everyone Napoleon?" "I think they're walking, somewhere."

Date: 2021-02-10 04:54 pm (UTC)Great to bring the dogs too. Glad you're feeling better from the shot. I'm waiting to get one, not sure about it just yet. I'll know after the end of March if it seems okay and they're distributing first and second shots in my senior housing. If the frequency of ambulance arrivals increases, then I'll know something isn't kosher.
I've had numerous discussions with friends in the scientific field and they're not getting the vaccine for some very viable reasons. I was on the cusp of getting it but when I heard and read their research, I decided against it for now. At least until the vaccine (which it technically isn't-it's an experimental drug) has had further testing and research.
Anyway, I'm not trying to scare you. The fact that you've had no reaction is a good thing and I'm sure you'll be fine when you get your second shot.
Keep up that wonderful walking!!!

Date: 2021-02-10 02:43 pm (UTC)I go out every day to walk, for between 40 and 60 minutes as a rule (2 or 3 miles — not far. My sister does 6), so on days when I don't need to shop I walk my local area and I have discovered lots of different routes — which after a year have become exceedingly boring. However, all round York there are green lungs, huge green spaces called strays, which have been a delight because as the seasons change, so do the flora and fauna.
My weight fluctuates by a pound or two. I tell myself that being 3 pounds over the ideal is OK in very cold weather — I'm still under 140 pounds — but when it gets warmer and less icy underfoot the walks will have to be an hour every day. Sigh.

Date: 2021-02-10 04:43 pm (UTC)The traffic is so busy that they even have a crossing guard for our senior housing.
I'd have to dive into town for a more interesting and safer walk along a waterfront promenade, but even that view is a bit boring after a while as the boardwalk isn't very long and all you end up doing is walking back and forth.
I do miss being around trees; there is a trail that people tell me I can use but not comfortable going by myself. Not sure how walker-friendly it is.
PS I wish I was the same weight as you! Keep on walking! And thanks for stopping by.

Date: 2021-02-10 05:04 pm (UTC)The town where I live has a very small main street with mostly antique (if you could really call some of them that) shops. Many sell junk and ridiculous prices. So the town is not a very interesting place to wander and sadly some of the business have closed permanently because of the pandemic. The streets were never crowded. Once a year the town would host a wonderful music festival with great professional talent performing. Now that's gone.
There was a wonderful coffee/sandwich shop that would host 'open mic' performances every Wednesday and it was always enjoyable to hear local talent. I was supposed to perform with a friend there but never got the chance. And now we never will.
The rest of the town is tightly packed residential streets, with many Victorian style homes. At one time the town was falling into disrepair but it's slowly making a comeback. The pandemic put a stop to that.
