I got in a short walk yesterday, but today's been a bust as it's snowing and raining off and on.  Tomorrow snow is predicted as well so I've decided to walk the corridors of my apartment building as there's 12 floors (I live on the 11th)   So I can get some indoor walking done!

Please, if you are walking as well to fight off the weight gain from eating too much while staying home, or for any other reason;  by all mean, please post a comment on the walkathon updates to let us know how you're doing.  We're in this together cousins!

"Where is everyone Napoleon?"   "I think they're walking, somewhere."

My husband and I received our first covid-19 vaccination this morning and then took the hounds on a mile+ walk on the "discovery trail" (Lewis and Clark are important here since we live where they first saw the Pacific Ocean). It's a trail that winds through the dunes and has an elevated boardwalk part of the way. We then came home and I felt icky (sore arm and killer headache from the shot) so I went to bed for a while. Now I'm trying to catch up on my reading.

The UK's first lockdown started at the end of March last year. We were only allowed out to shop for food or take exercise once a day. We're on the third lockdown now.
I go out every day to walk, for between 40 and 60 minutes as a rule (2 or 3 miles — not far. My sister does 6), so on days when I don't need to shop I walk my local area and I have discovered lots of different routes — which after a year have become exceedingly boring. However, all round York there are green lungs, huge green spaces called strays, which have been a delight because as the seasons change, so do the flora and fauna.
My weight fluctuates by a pound or two. I tell myself that being 3 pounds over the ideal is OK in very cold weather — I'm still under 140 pounds — but when it gets warmer and less icy underfoot the walks will have to be an hour every day. Sigh.

It's mostly streets that I walk for exercise because in the suburbs people are good at distancing, they are also more likely to smile and say 'thanks' if you give them space. But ten minutes walk away, inside the city walls (which form an almost complete 3 mile circuit of the city) where all the shopping streets are, people just don't pay attention. So though it's a most beautiful city to wander round — much nicer than the areas outside the walls — I only go once a week and very early, because there's a wonderful fishmonger in the market.
