Here's next weeks Picfic prompt!  Looking forward to some 'sharp' stories for this one. In case you don't know what it is...it's a shaving razor.   Happy Writing!

What is that? It almost looks like a straight edge razor, but then it's curved.

It's a shaving razor. Remember the scenes in Skyfall, or The Color Purple? I just added what it is to the blurb...."D

That's what I thought, but the blade is curved, so wasn't sure. I used to have straight edge for cutting hair :D It's a terrible thing to do to a hair shaft.

The blade is actually straight, the arm and the case are what's curved. Optical illusion, I guess. :D

It's what used to be called a cut throat razor. The handle is curved to fit comfortably into the hand and the projection from the end of the blade is for the barber to hook his thumb over to hold the blade steady. They were sharpened by being stropped on a leather strap.

They were superseded by the safety razor, but as a generational change like the move from wet shaving to electric razors. People accustomed to a cut throat razor didn't like safety razors because the blade couldn't be sharpened but had to be thrown away. They were accustomed to the blade being sharpened before every use.

Yes thanks. Am still on the anti-coagulants after my little brush with death this summer but am feeling remarkably well. Am thinking that I cannot pass this image up.. so have an idea which I may pursue.
