Good morning!  I wanted to open the doors to our meeting room and turn on the lights. Please feel free to sit anywhere and pour yourself a cup of coffee or tea.
The idea here is to pick each other's brains a little ... oblique reference to the Brain Killers Affair ;)   If anyone has a story to dissect, an episode that is begging for a story treatment or anything else that falls into the realm of fan fiction, just jump in and we'll see where it goes.  The discussion will remain open all day and you can return to it if there's something you would like to add come Monday morning and beyond.
My brother was down for a visit this past week, to help out with some things I'm doing to the house (thank God for older brothers!), and he decided he wanted to watch some MFU.  I was a little surprised, but completely agreeable to the request, so we started with the first episode and got through seven episodes, and that includes The Deadly Games Affair where Angelique is introduced.
Why is she so intriguing?  I can't begin to figure out how many stories she has appeared in, but count me among those who have attempted to portray her.
One of the most successful, in my opinion, is The Devil's Slingshot by Linda Cornett
If you haven't read it, take a few and sit down with one of my favorites, and arguably one of the most compelling Angelique incarnations within the fandom.
Let me know what you think, and if you have your own favorite Angelique story.  Beyond that, have you written her into one of your stories and, if so, which ones.  What about the relationships?  Illya and Angelique, Napoleon and Angelique... maybe not so obvious as we think?
Round Table #1 is now in session.

Good start. I hope this gets as big a response as it deserves.

Is it ok to say 'I know I read it somewhere'? There's a couple of Angelique stories I found impressive, but can't give author or title. One was another with Marton, where she was having a meal with him , and you saw through her eyes being a bit over the hill, an having a drink probalem, and her unhappy childhood. another was a Napoleon/Illya fic (I think one had AIDS) when she helps Napoleon and Illya, when even Waverly fails them. I'll cut thais paragraph if you want, but if anyone could point me toward either fic, I'd like to reread it.

I think myself Angelique probably was raised rather poor, from the way she luxuriates in possessions. It's very tempting to give her the birth surname La ChĂȘne. Perhaps a Louisiana swamp family?

I've never delved into the backstory for Angelique, which might be an interesting thing to do. In my fics I don't differ from the usual liaisons with Napoleon and the obvious dislike she and Illya have for each other.

Though I did have her save Illya from burning to death in a building fire, with her rationale being that Napoleon would kill her if she hadn't.

She's become so much more in fan fiction than was hinted at in the only episode in which she appeared. Carabele wrote a piece where Napoleon and she have another of their rendezvous, but this time Illya has the room bugged and is listening it... the story is excellent, though I can't recall the name of it. It can be found on LaH Carabele's web site, I'm sure.

And what a last name..."The dog".... Angelique likes the good things in life and THRUSH is a means to that for her. They're always claiming (at least in FF) that they pay better than UNCLE. Along with her desire for the good things, I think she has to have an evil streak in her, yet a soft spot when it comes to Napoleon.

With Napoleon I think it's just pure lust between the two of them, the thrill that their lover could kill them at anytime. So besides good sex, there's always the underlying danger element.

I actually never liked that last name for Angelique. The suggestive imagery or whatever you call it is just too blatant for me. Yes, I get "the bitch" reference, but I don't know. It's just too overt somehow.

I use the La Chien lastname in my stories because it has become sort of "de rigueur", but I still don't really like it.

Strictly speaking 'le chien' means male dog and 'la chienne' a bitch, but I agree with you, I think its an unnatractive and unpleasant name. I rather like Angelique, she has taste and sophistication in most things. Badness is always glamourous of course!

I have one story, "Predators and Prey," in which Angelique figures heavily. In it, she is personally selected by the Chair of the Central Committee to complete a mission. She drives the entire tale. I like the way she has been portrayed in the fanfic, though she only appeared once(?)on the series. I've never given her a backstory either; there's an idea I might get behind. If you want to read my tale, this link goes to AO3:

Suggestion only: perhaps one shared for Angelique and Serena?

Or, perhaps a "Ladies Choice" Challenge featuring stories about Angelique, Serena, April and/or any other THRUSH or UNCLE female employees.

I like that idea of a Ladies Choice!

Thanks for a good read. I do like Never send a man to do a woman's job.

I don't know whether it applies to the 60s, but making the blonde the more effective was interestingly against stereotype. Maybe that's a small part of Angelique's larger appeal?

Angelique, in my head, is a bottle blonde and she is by no means a bubblehead. She is capable, smart and deadly. By killing Dragi, she could have laid claim to the position of Chair of the Committee, but she is smart enough not to want it.

This discussion is giving me some ideas about a story for her.

I'm not surprised that many fans are intrigued by Angelique. She's a strong, intelligent and powerful woman in an environment normally dominated by men. She knows how to level the field and beat men at their own 'game'. She is unafraid to put herself first or use any and all strategic advantages available to her. There's also the element of unpredictability in her actions. She's the epitome of everything women of the 60's weren't supposed to be. And she's clearly a worthy and equal opponent for either Napoleon or Illya.

I think [livejournal.com profile] lcorn and [livejournal.com profile] st_crispins have done the most justice to Angelique in fanfic, essentially creating a full characterization out of whole cloth, although I think [livejournal.com profile] st_crispins version has a harder edge to her.

It's true. she's a psycho in my stories. I like her a little scary. :)

But F.Y. Driver wrote one with me in which you can see behind the façade and it's much more sympathetic to Angie while keeping her formidable. It's pretty sexy so be forewarned. Several parts to it and it has a twist:

I would love to read this version of Angelique, but I am denied access to the story, even though I am a friend of yours on LJ. Would you possibly be able to give me access??

Just finished reading 'Risky Business,' and I really enjoyed it. Your portrayal of Angelique was intense and revealing as was the twist at the end. That was unexpected. Thanks for a great read. It was sexy but tastefully done.

Angie is completely Fara's work. We wrote interactively and I did Solo and Illya.

Angelique figures heavily in a lot of my stories. I don't know if I should list them. Don't know how folks would feel about me doing that.

I think a page of links would be great. As a fairly new reader of MfU fanfiction, I have found myself trying to read the stories in some semblance of order, either by author or topic. Recs from you all, as writers in this universe, would be wonderful. That's why I came over to this round table in the first place.

'My Dinner With Angelique,' also by Lcorn, is my fav of the femme fatale. Illya is particularly snarky in this.
