Mood-Y Challenge Prompt – Bewildered

(#2 in my ‘Brothers Kuryakin’ series. This chapter is tied to the mood-y challenge, but the rest of the story won’t be.)

MFUMFUMFUMFUMFUMFUMFUMFUMFUMFUMFUMFUMFUMFUMFUMFUMFUM

Chapter 1

“Please take a seat Mr Kuryakin.”

Illya accepted Mr Waverly’s invitation and chose the seat next to the one occupied by Napoleon Solo. The American gave the Russian a reassuring smile which instantly caused Illya’s blood to freeze.

“Has something happened Sir?”

“We’ve received information from our agents in Poland that they’ve rescued a family from across the border of the Ukraine.”

Illya’s frozen blood was joined by a large boulder in the pit of his stomach. There was only one family in the Ukraine which Mr Waverly would need to inform him about.

Challenge: Mood-Y

Prompt: ‘bewildered’

Title: 'Two heads are better than one'
Rated: GEN

Author: mrua7

Word count: approximately: 1900

Napoleon Solo dropped into his office chair feeling somewhat dazed. No amazed, that was it. He was simply amazed at what had just taken place in Alexander Waverly’s conference room.

He’d been called in for a special meeting and had initially assumed it was for a last minute assignment. Usually an agent was given a twenty-four hour notice for a mission, though sometimes that wasn’t always possible.  T.H.R.U.S.H. and the other nefarious baddies that U.N.C.L.E. dealt with on a daily basis didn’t exactly keep to time schedules.

The meeting however, wasn’t about an assignment, no it was about Illya Kuryakin.  Waverly had the distasteful task of informing Napoleon Solo his partner was under arrest.

The Mood is Bewildered
~~~~~:
At first glance it was difficult to identify the man speaking.  His voice seemed to have created an atmosphere of calm among the young people seated around him, the resonance a soothing balm to an anxious crowd.  Napoleon Solo had expected to see his partner here but...
“Illya?”  He said it beneath his breath, unbelieving even as the name escaped.  Kuryakin had gone undercover three months earlier and the preparation had included letting his already shaggy hair grow unhindered.  Mr. Waverly did everything but put a gag in his mouth to keep from criticizing the young Russian; he was, after all, fulfilling the needs of the mission.
Hey Section VII'rs:
Just wanted to let you all know that I posted the basic FAQ for the Mood-Y: Special Anniversary Challenge here on [livejournal.com profile] network_command.
This is a general FAQ (no mood revelation yet), but [livejournal.com profile] elmey wants FAQs available on [livejournal.com profile] network_command for all the MFU:50 events to be sure and make all the events visible to as many as possible. When the fully detailed FAQ is ready for posting, I will post it here on [livejournal.com profile] section7mfu as well.
But for now we have Mood-Y: Challenge 3 in the offing for June (posting June 21st through June 28th). The mood for that challenge, as a reminder, is BEWILDERED.
Folks,
After some discussion with [livejournal.com profile] elmey (who is doing a fantastic job in setting up the MFU:50 calendar of events), we've decided to move up the Mood-Y Special MFU Anniversary Challenge by a week in order to better fit with the scheduling of other MFU:50 events.
So in that regard the timetable for the future Mood-Y challenges is revised as follows:
Challenge 3: Sat, Jun 21st through Sat, Jun 28th Regular Mood-Y challenge.
Challenge 4: Sat, Sep 13th through Sat, Sep 20th
Please note the date change!
THIS IS THE SPECIAL 50th ANNIVERSARY CHALLENGE!
Keep an eye out for more info on the special rules for this upcoming challenge.
Challenge 5: Sat, Oct 25th through Sat, Nov 1st Final Mood-Y challenge of the year.
Now as noted above, there will be separate set of the rules for the MFU ANNIVERSARY CHALLENGE running in September. More as the event draws closer.
As a reminder, the mood for the current Mood-Y: Challenge 3 that posts in June (June 21st through June 28th) is BEWILDERED.
The second Mood-Y challenge is history and many thanks to those who participated.
I thought I would venture into a mood for Challenge 3 that would lend itself to humor.
So on that note, the mood for the third challenge is...
BEWILDERED
CHALLENGE: Write an MFU fanfic story regarding the feeling embodied in the above mood. The challenge is pretty wide open with regard to how the mood is incorporated, but do place the mood in a comment at the start of the story for clarity.
POSTING: To this forum, starting on June 21st and ending on June 28th.
The two men sat across from each other at the simple card table, staring wordlessly, and seemingly showing no sign of what was going on in their heads.
One a handsome brunette with chiseled features and an impish gleam in his eyes, the other a long haired blond, boyishly handsome with eyes so blue one would mistake them for the waters of the Aegean sea.
The initial Mood-Y challenge is in the books. Thanks to the few who participated.
Since the first mood didn't seem to prove too popular with writers, I figured I would try the opposite end of the emotional spectrum for Challenge 2.
