Five years ago I had one of the ideas that I actually followed through on: An Art Gallery.  Not just any art gallery, but one for the MFU community to share the artwork, illustrations and comics that have been inspired by The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
It isn't for photographs, we have that covered in the mfu_scrapbook community.  This is for artwork, the abundance of which is found in the covers of comics, the movie posters and original works of art by fans.  There are funny pieces, serious, illustrations and a myriad of other forms of MFU commentary or love.
Lately there have been some new entries, and I posted one yesterday, prompting me to share again with you that we have art.
You can find it all at [livejournal.com profile] mfu_gallery

We love MFU all year long, but now is the time of year
we can celebrate with more stories, more drabbles and more art.
Art?
Yes indeed.
Make a Valentine for or from our UNCLE agents and post them in the

You do not need to be a member to post.
Posting begins now and runs through Valentine's Day.

These guys are Romance on Wheels, so check out the [livejournal.com profile] mfu_gallery and join in on the Valentine Art Event.
It doesn't require artistic expertise, just some photos and a little Google Drawings help,
or just cut and paste like we did as kids (my personal favorite).
You can find the details HERE

Over on [livejournal.com profile] mfu_gallery there is a post about an upcoming event for Valentine's Day.  We love MFU, we love our spies, so why not create a special card for them, or even from them to all of us.
You can find the post HERE
Below are some cards from the last time we did this.

Dreamwidth not only has the 'other' Section VII, there is also another Map Room for reading romance into your MFU life.  If you want to join, you can take this link to the DW Map Room
I haven't imported to there lately, but it doesn't get as many entries as Section VII.
You can also find, and join, Reception Desk... this is an information center where you can ask advice on how to get around on DW, find other communities or just have a conversation.  It was established during one of our LJ blackouts a few years ago, but it can still function for us if we need to touch base on a topic that isn't a writing issue.
The other mirrored community on DW is the MFU Gallery.  That's where artwork related to the show or movie can be posted and reviewed.  There has been a pretty impresive amount of art created around those two MFU products, both for studio promotion and individual artistic expression.  If you haven't visited the [livejournal.com profile] mfu_gallery I hope you'll take a tour.

Or is it new art from the new Man from U.N.C.L.E.?  I found this on Tumbler and found the style and whimsy very engaging.  The Gallery hasn't had any action for a long time but with the movie I bet there's a lot of artwork, both fan driven and studio produced.

Another reminder that the [livejournal.com profile] mfu_gallery Valentine's Day Artist Trading Card Event is drawing near... no pun intended, honestly.  You can find the original post regarding the how and why of it HERE.  Remember, this is not a challenge, it's just a fun opportunity to express yourself, whether it be original art or the time honored cut and paste method, as in this example.

In case you missed the announcement, here's a repeat of the initial tutorial.  Artist Trading Cards for Valentine's Day is the event, and everyone is invited to make something to post in [livejournal.com profile] mfu_gallery
I hope everyone will give it a try, because ATC's are fun, they're small and easy-peasy, if you know what I mean.

We're having an Art Event in the MFU Gallery, something for everyone to try out.  Artist Trading Cards are miniature works of art, completely fun and something anyone can do.  The original post is here
I'll continue to post reminders here and elsewhere, so get out the glue and scissors, crayons and whatever else makes you feel like an artist.  Let's have some fun.

Artist Trading Cards

The link above is to the official site of the Artist Trading Card movement.  ATC's are a miniature work of art that is traded, not sold, among artists and collectors.  I've done a few, and in spite of my sometimes status as an artist, one of my favorite methods is the cut and paste technique that allows me to use the images of some of my favorite people.  You know, Beatles, Men from UNCLE, etc...

In honor of the coming Valentine season, and in conjunction with the MFU Gallery, I'd like to propose an open invitation to make your own Artist Trading Card that features your favorite MFU character(s), embedded for all to see and featured in the Gallery.
ATC is a specific size...  2 ½ X 3 ½ inch or 64 X 89 mm.  You can use anything for a background, such as scrapbooking paper, magazine clippings or original art (crayons are fine, everything is fine).  Layer on whatever makes you happy and finish with the image that makes your heart sing.  Trading can be arranged by the participants at their pleasure.

I hope to see many creative sparks flying in response to this event.  Let's face it, our fascination with Napoleon and Illya rests as much on their physical beauty as the altruistic bent they show us in the heroism of the job.  Now's your chance to indulge a little.

I am showing a few of my own, just to get things started.

First I had an image that I wanted to use, so copied it into a size that would fit the ATC dimensions.  Next, I needed a background.  In this instance I used a canvas, applied some paint in a random manner and then made a copy of it as well.  I positioned the illustration where it seemed best, used my trusty glue stick and then glued the finished piece onto a pre-cut form that is the correct size for an ATC.  I used a metallic marker to outline the figure and the border of the ATC.
Easy.  I used original artwork on this, but that's just one option.  You can see from the next example that I freely use photographs as well.

psychedelicquartet On this one I printed the photo of the Beatles on a paper that is partially transluscent, allowing the background to bleed through their images.
rockstarThe background for this is from an Indian print, the foreground is a photo of a \ pillar.  It's just layering the elements until you have what you want.
300254_600 And of course... Romantic, mysterious, elusive...

And there you go.  We can discuss it further if you like, ask questions and share the process.  We'll post these works of art on Valentine's Day in
[livejournal.com profile] mfu_gallery .  A change of pace from storytelling with words, we'll do it with pictures.
[identity profile] glennagirl.livejournal.com
MFU Artsy that is.  A new community dedicated to artwork inspired by Solo and Kuryakin, et al... Whether it's original art, photo manips or something pulled from the pages of the past, the site is all about imagery.
[livejournal.com profile] mfu_gallery is for everyone, every genre and any kind of art that fits the description of Man from UNCLE.  No moderation of entries, but the honor system is in operation, so keep it behind the cut with a warning if it's going to shock anyone.  It's art.  I'm an artist, I understand.
So, let's make like the Pop Art Affair and create some masterpieces.
