Open Arms

Sometimes ghosts from agent’s missions come back to haunt them and Illya’s past is full of them.

Chapter 2

The next morning, Illya felt a little better. The pain in his head was reduced to a dull throb and his back was not sore at all.

The night before, Napoleon had encouraged him to fill the psychiatrist in on the whole situation and though he’d made it his own personal policy to avoid telling shrinks the whole truth whenever possible; he knew his own judgement was not to be trusted this time.

It was such an odd sensation, popping from one scenario to the next, and utterly disturbing but this was his reality now. He was becoming used to the shock of it, if that were possible. He simply had to talk about it with the doctor. Napoleon would never steer me wrong. Kuryakin reasoned with himself.

LJ wouldn't let me post the entire file, saying it was too large...sigh.  I've posted fics much longer than this so I don't get it...

First half of Chapter 2 of The little Diomede Affair

“Where you say you were from again?” Earl asked, giving Solo the stink eye.

Nikolaevsk.”

“You don’t sound Rooshin.”

“Pover'te mne, chto ya.” (believe me, that I am)

“YA slyshal eto. Kto govoril po-russki? ( I heard that. Who spoke in Russian?)

A blonde woman wearing a green sweat shirt, pants and an apron  and a pair of seal skin mukluks on her feet, called out from the kitchen. She was carrying the sandwiches the agents ordered.

“That would be me,” Napoleon raised his hand.

“Otkuda ty? (Where are you from?)

Chapter 1

The prompt for chapter 2:

Napoleon and Peter settled in on their flight, which required a brief but welcome stopover in Seattle before proceeding onto Anchorage. It allowed them a few minutes to exit the plane to get some fresh air but not much more than that.

At least being on board one of the Command’s private Lear Jets gave them time to review layouts of the island and the village of Diomede as well as to relax and catch up on their sleep.

This was one of the rare occasions that a female attendant wasn’t on board to see to the passenger needs. The one scheduled, Mandy Dearing, with whom Napoleon was well acquainted, fell ill at the last minute. It was too late to find a replacement.

Not that the men couldn’t pour their own drinks and warm their TV dinners themselves. They managed to do that as well as to take care of the pilot and copilot.

Once in Seattle, an attendant finally arrived. It was Louise Masterson from the UNCLE office in the state capital of Olympia. The sight of her made Napoleon cringe just a little.

The LIFECYCLE: HUMOR seasonal challenge is in the books and I was really thrilled to see the large response it got! It seemed to have struck a chord with writers, resulting in many entertaining stories. Hopefully this final LIFECYCLE challenge will as well.

The subject for this last LIFECYCLE seasonal challenge is FEAR.

As we all know, FEAR can be a very personal thing. There are always things that spook us particularly that might not affect others in the same way. So it's time to delve into the secret dreads and private terrors in the LIFECYCLE of our favorite fearless men from U.N.C.L.E.

Here are the guidelines for the LIFECYCLE: FEAR seasonal challenge.

CHALLENGE: Write an MFU fanfic story regarding the idea of Fear. The story doesn't have to necessarily mention or include the actual term; just embody a scenario that fits the concept behind it. Do, however, place the term FEAR in a comment at the start of the story for clarity.

STATISTICAL STUFF: Minimum of 500 words with no set maximum. (Drabbles are not incorporated in this particular challenge.) Must fit into the overall concepts of this community, i.e., contain no explicit adult material and reflect the 1960s series in style and content. Please tag your story with the lifecycle tag.

POSTING: To this forum starting on Saturday, August 22nd, and ending on Saturday, August 29th.

Part One Part Two

Napoleon’s attempts to navigate the tunnels were beginning to wear on his last nerve. He’d been walking around for thirty minutes before he finally found some signs of occupation. Sliding his gun from its holster, Napoleon edged towards what appeared to be a laboratory of some sort. Luckily for him, there were several nooks along the tunnel, so when the lab door opened he was able to conceal himself. A large man, with a bushy beard and a lab coat emerged from the room, but was stopped by a call from inside. A woman stepped out and handed him a file.

“Dr Dabree wants this file,” she told him. “She’s got her hands on that Russian UNCLE agent. This is his dossier.”
