With the world going insane, and the weather turning colder, I need something to distract me. How about some short stories?

The prompts and the rules, for stories due on Oct 17th, are below the cut as they always are. Should you wish to join in with today’s postings, you’ll find those prompts right here.

Remember, Section VII is a Gen site, but stories which are Het, Long-term Romance or AU can be posted in the Map Room. You’ll find the link for it down the side there.

Have fun.

Illya sat hunched in his chair in medical, watching the steady rise and fall of his partner's chest. He was hooked up to goodness knew how many machines. When the doctors had tried to remove the ventilator, Napoleon had almost died. Now it seemed he was doing slightly better than before, but he was still unable to breathe without the ventilator.

Challenge: The Short Affair

-Prompt Colour – Black

Author: mrua7

Title: “Deconstructing Illya”

Word count: Approximately 1000

Illya Kuryakin was often accused of being a bit inflexible, and rather stubborn, at least that’s how he came across to some people...correction, everyone who didn’t know him well.

One of the lab technicians...a woman from the south once referred to him as mulish and cantankerous. The Russian as usual shrugged it off; his face placid and unrevealing.

These remarks were merely a matter of opinion and he held little store in people’s assessments of him, other than Mr. Waverly of course.  Illya told himself he was there at the U.N.C.L.E. to do a job and not to make friends, yet in spite of that mantra he managed to pick up a few friends along the way.

Living in the decadent west meant that Illya was free to pursue pastimes which were frowned upon at home. Some of his countrymen would even go so far as to call him subversive. His favourite diversion was jazz, and living in New York gave him access to as much of it as he could ever want. He even played the English horn in the Parisian Club whenever he had a free Wednesday*. For those times when he was relaxing in his apartment, Illya had his ever growing record collection.

"I'm just saying you need to be more prepared to adapt, tovarisch. Sometimes plans fall to pieces and there's no use complaining about it afterwards."

"It is not the adaptation I have a problem with. It is the plans falling to pieces. Or rather I should say the plans being helped to fall to pieces."

"I can't help feel that I'm the target of your resentment somehow."

"I resent being stuck in the middle of a storm on this deserted island for the next thirty six hours with no supplies and only you for company."

"Well I resent that too but you don't see me blaming you."

"Blaming me...?! I think the rain has caused your brain to rot. How could you possibly think this is my fault?"
