Game On! My computer woes have ended...
Jan. 24th, 2019 11:33 amFinally, I'm able to get back online with something other than my phone. I found a refurbished MacBook on Ebay for an astounding price, upgraded and slick as a whistle. This is a beautiful machine, I'm so very happy with it.
I've missed a few things, braved cold and snow and lots of rain. It's still really cold here, in the 20's. And on top of the weather issues, I've tweaked my knee again.
It seems that tendons don't heal well, and I did something to my left knee a few years ago that just keeps being a problem. I was reading about it, and all of it rings true for me. I could maybe do physical therapy, but that requires going to a doctor and all of that stuff... or just do what is suggested by these medical articles.
The suggested rehab measures include strengthening the gluteus maximus... I'll admit it made me laugh when I read it and saw the illustration of a rear end lit up like a Christmas bulb. I'm still not sure how to do that, the strengthening part, without using my legs and making my knee hurt.
Oh well, at least writing for MFU won't hurt me. Well, except for the part where sitting for long periods of time with my knees bent makes it hurt... hmmm... I'll risk it.
I hope everyone is doing well. Belated Happy Birthday to
pfrye, I came back in here a day late.
Stay warm if you can, and if you're not in a cold zone... be thankful.
Let's get with the stories folks! Napoleon and Illya need us to give them a more fulfilling life.

Date: 2019-01-24 06:58 pm (UTC)Tendon injuries will actually improve over time. Periodically the injury will flare up depending on the weather. I speak from personal experience on this as I injured the tendon on my left knee. I went to the doctor and she said it could mean potential surgery. Her suggestion was to rest it first before resorting to any drastic measures.
What I did was get a really good knee brace to immobilize the knee and give it support. I could still bend it enough with the brace, but it really helped. The tendon is fine now, and only acts up once in a while, when it does I use the brace and voila the pain etc. stops. My knee brace isn't elastic. It wraps around the joint and there are 3 velcro straps to make it as tight or as loose as you want. I got mine at Rite Aide pharmacy. It's made by ACE.
Having Sports Science and training as part of my college degree has really helped me with things like this. Soaking in the tub warm water with Epson Salts can help relieve some of the inflammation. Since you don't have access to a whirlpool, the Salts soak is a good alternative. (just warm up the bathroom before you do it) "D

Date: 2019-01-24 08:36 pm (UTC)I'm no expert, far from it, but I admit I'm puzzled as to how strengthening your gluteal muscles will help your knee. Obviously having good leg muscles all around (and good back and stomach [core] muscles) will help because you can manage or work around an injury more easily if the rest of you is strong and stable.
But butt muscles particularly? Odd.
