Though everyne is thrilled about the casting of Cavill as Napoleon, (as am I) I'm disappointed that Armie Hammer doesn't have the iconic Illya haircut. Even the way he was dressed in one of the photos I've seen, brown...some what ill fitting clothes, clunky brown shoes and a regular hair cut. What happened to the sexy, mysterious shaggy haired Russian dressed in black. I have a feeling they've dropped the ball on this. Am also haveing a gut feeling the movie is just not going to be that good....
And I thought Armie and Henry were supposed to be the same height. Hammer is towering over Henry Cavill. They don't look right together, after all. Awwwwwww.
I agree. Henry Cavill will be a wonderful Solo.. but as he's quite Robert Vaughn's Solo looking, it's really strange -and unpleasant- to have this tall, and I'm sorry, not Soviet at all "Kuryakin"... It isn't about the hair cut. It's the height (no doubt, Thrush won't have any trouble to spot him in a crowd), the clothes and the postures, gestures...
they went to the trouble of casting an actor that has a fleeting resemblnce to Vaughn, and they're definitely spiffing him up in stylish clothes. There seems to be no attmept to tie in Armie's Kuryaking to the iconic image developed my David McCallum, at least I could get over the height issue if he sort of resembled the Illya we know and love, as Henry resembles Napoleon.
Hollywood, dropping the ball again. I recall reading on a site that Norman Felton wanted men for the parts (origial) who were not of great stature... Guess the casting directors didn't bother to do any research in that area.
I think I've already made up my mind not to see the movie when it comes out, and wait until it comes out on DVD...OR if the cousins give it a good review, then I'll consider seeing. I hate wasting my money on a bad movei as tickets here to see a film are outrageously expensive. It's cheaper to wait and buy it on DVD...and I ususally get them 'used.' lol.
I remain hopeful, although I am very slow about getting to a theater as a rule and will still probably end up viewing it on dvd. For the record, I wanted Jonas Armstrong for IK... I thought he fit the look and attitude very well, and he's the right size. Yes sorry to come late to this. I agree totally with your comments about the pair. Henry looks good and the clothes are good but a great big straight looking Illya just doesn't cut it. Don't be offended but he looks so incredibly American not in any way mysterious and European like our Illya. These remakes are so bad if they don't get them right. If the makers of the StarTrek prequels made so much effort, why couldn't these chaps get it right?
We'll have to wait and see if we can identify the WHY part of this. They obviously wanted 'names' for this film that would draw an audience, and who out there in movieland is anything remotely like Mccallum? No one I can think of.
