It seems that there is a positive vibe concerning the Happy Endings Challenge in the [livejournal.com profile] mfu_map_room.  A few people mentioned being knee deep in other challenge endeavors, namely the Halloween Challenge on [livejournal.com profile] mfu_scrapbook.  That one is looming in the space of a few weeks ( a month, to be exact), and after that the Down the Chimney Affair via [livejournal.com profile] network_command will be up and running.
I'm thinking that there should be some space and time in between for this challenge.  Otherwise we're looking at next year, and the Valentine Challenge on Scrapbook is in February.  So, it's either put it in the November slot (oh, I hear time issues with preparing for Thanksgiving), or  push it out to March or April.
I'm fine with delaying it, but I do think it's something we could have fun with and possibly provide a challenge to our story telling skills. After all, romance isn't just kiss and don't tell, there's a need to finesse the scenario with genuine emotion and believable outcomes.
Also, after an inquiry or two, the option to write a slash version has been proposed.  That would post in [livejournal.com profile] uncle_du_jour
This is a one off opportunity to write the love story you've been dreaming about, so pick a month and let's get it on the calendar.

The weekend got past me and I didn't get a chance to be on LJ enough to post or read anything, just checked in to make sure we're still humming along.  And we are, thanks to all of you.
I have an idea for a challenge over in the Map Room, and would like some feedback before I make it official.  Somewhere in my half awake state the other night I thought of this: The Happy Endings Challenge.  It would be an opportunity to write that romantic, happily ever after that you've been thinking about but never put to paper... or computer.
We can post in the [livejournal.com profile] mfu_map_room which is where we put AU/Romance/Het...  All the things not included in the strictly Gen genre.  Of course we're not all that strict, but I do think marriage and children need to be in the Map Room, so...
What say ye?  Even a moderately positive response will get it in the Calendar, but I'm hoping we have some real interest in this challenge idea.
Post your comments, ideas and suggestions for all of us to enjoy and embrace.  And don't get too frustrated if Napoleon starts to back out.  I am confident that someone can get that man to the altar.

I had an idea.  I know, it's newsworthy and something to share with everyone.  Here it is:
What about an MFU Crossover Challenge for all genres, any other fandom of your choice sharing space with our guys, Solo and Kuryakin.  What do you think?
This is something that will have a longer timeframe for completion, say two to three months, and can include illustrations and artwork, photo manips, etc... in order to better portray the story and characters.  We would be posting in [livejournal.com profile] uncle_du_jour since it is an all genre event.  I know we have writers who are active in other fandoms, and this is an opportunity to let some different characters play in our yard, so to speak.  It also gives us the opportunity to share an event with those who write in other genres of MFU.  I suppose we would also want to include the movie version, just to be fair you know.
So again, I ask you for an opinion on this idea.  If there's enough interest then we'll go forward with it.

This coming Thursday (September already???) is the next installment of the Great Episode Challenge.  So far, I've been able to come up with questions for it, but I'm asking if you have a question you would like addressed in the future.  If you do, please PM me with it.

Thanks and happy writing!

With the permission of the mods, I'm posting to ask how the members of this com would feel about having a Vive La France Week; with fic on French themes, settings, persons or any etceteras.

I have closed the 2015 Seasonal Challenge Poll.

Response was sparse, but still the overall winner was a combo of HODOWE -- 3 challenges, and LIFECYCLE -- 3 challenges.

So that's what I'll be doing next year.

You can view the results of the poll here.

By the by, Marian, there is indeed currently a strange glitch on LJ where tags are not showing in correct alphabetical order. Weird. The tags are all still there though, just not in correct sequence.

Hey folks,

As Glenna suggested, I am polling folks' preference for the seasonal challenge here on [livejournal.com profile] section7mfu for next year (2015).

Please select one of the 3 options below:
[Poll #1984726]

PlEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING ADDITONAL INFO before making your choice:

LIFECYCLE The concept is based roughly on the idea of the "circle of life" in that I would provide a prompt relating in some way to a facet of human living. As an example, the prompt might be something like REGRET. There would be 5 challenges in total.

HODOWE: (Stands for Holidays of Dubious Origins Writing Event) There would be 5 challenges in total. Below is the listing of the obscure holidays that would be used:

CHALLENGE # HOLIDAY HOLIDAY DATE (posting TBA)
1 Ben Franklin's Birthday January 17th
2 Patriots' Day April 20th
3 Victoria Day May 18th
4 Women's Equality Day August 26th
5 Sweetest Day October 17th

BOTH: This would be a combo of both with an abbreviated scheduled for each, such that there would be 6 challenges in total: 3 LifeCycle and 3 HODOWE. LifeCycle prompts would be revealed a few weeks in advance. Below is the listing of the obscure holidays that would be included in the HODOWE.

So since the last Mood-Y Challenge is coming up this month, I've been thinking about what type of challenge to run as the seasonal challenge next year (2015).

My idea is something I am calling the LIFECYCLE Challenge

The concept is based roughly on the idea of the "circle of life" in that I would provide of prompt relating in some way to a facet of human living. As an example, the prompt might be something like REGRET.

So what do folks think of this idea?

The other option would be to revive the HODOWE Challenge (with different obscure holidays of course).

***UPDATE***

To provide a little more info, these are the holidays I would use for the renewal of the HODOWE in 2015, if we go that route.

CHALLENGE # HOLIDAY HOLIDAY DATE (posting TBA)
1 Ben Franklin's Birthday January 17th
2 Patriots' Day April 20th
3 Victoria Day May 18th
4 Women's Equality Day August 26th
5 Sweetest Day October 17th

Question Glenna: Do you want a poll on this?
[identity profile] carabele.livejournal.com
If you haven't yet voted in this poll, and wish to do so, you can do so here.

I will leave the poll open until tomorrow some time and then close it, though it looks like we already have a clean-cut winner... Mood-Y. Yay!
[identity profile] carabele.livejournal.com
Okay, [livejournal.com profile] glennagirl suggested a poll to decide this, so here you go.

On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being least preferred and 5 being most preferred), enter your preference for each of these types of challenges for the 2014 calendar year on [livejournal.com profile] section7mfu (only one will be chosen for next year's calendar):

[Poll #1929893]

Just some notes: Each of these challenges would encompass 6 separate writing events that would be scheduled on the calendar for 2014. Each story written for any of the challenge events would have a minimum requirement of 500 words (drabbles would not be encompassed in these particular challenges). And of course each story written for any of the challenge events would need to conform to the standard posting parameters of [livejournal.com profile] section7mfu.
[identity profile] carabele.livejournal.com
Okay, we are about 2/3rds of the way through 2013 and 2/3rds of the way through the QuoteME challenges as well. Just 2 more of those challenges for this year, and I do have some nice quotes ready for those: one giving folks a chance to go Halloweenish -- or not -- depending how the quote is interpreted, for the October challenge, and a nice one which can resonate with a holiday vibe for the December challenge.

But I was thinking of possible challenges for next year and came up with an idea I call the Mood-Y challenges, where I will provide a one-word or multiple-word "mood" and folks would then write an MFU story to suit that mood. Again talking about 6 challenges for the year (2014) on this.

Just wanted to get some feedback to see if folks like the idea or not.
