We as fanfiction writers like to utilize certain fandom wide cliches and catch phrases.  I don't know where they all originated, but I'm pretty sure most of it isn't from the series itself.
Tovarisch, in all its myriad spellings, is one that we do know Napoleon used once or twice; Terbuf and one other I think.
Illya uses the phrase 'my friend' in the Brain Killer Affair.
Partner mine...  I have no idea, but we like it anyway.
Are there others, those little words and phrases, descriptions or something we accept but can't really identify as 'canon'?
Oh, there's the Pursang and Angelique's last name.  The latter came from Linda Cornett, and Pursang possibly from [livejournal.com profile] st_crispins.
Add to the list and if you can find the source then please fill in the blanks.

The idea of a jail for rogue spies. I use the name Tartarus, which I got from GM. She had it somewhere in Ireland or Scotland, some people have it in Antarctica. I have it somewhere on an uncharted island in the Southern Hemisphere in the Pacific. Think of Pitcairn Island which is the most isolated place in the world, except in my MFU world, it's Tartarus.

Smart Russian.

Napoleon says it to Illya in 'Never-Never'. I can't think of another time he uses it canon, but it turns up in fiction all the time.

I was thinking I heard that term used in The Odd Man Affair.... That, or something similar. Hmm.

I couldn't say one way or the other. I suppose I'll have to make the sacrifice and watch the episode :-D

I love The Odd Man Affair. :) I was watching it just the other day, so it's rather fresh on my mind, but even so, I could be mis-remembering the quote. Hmm.

I've just forced myself to watch the Odd Man Affair. It was an arduous task, but someone has to stare at Illya in a mac ;-)

Anyway, Napoleon calls Illya a 'sly Russian'. It's all a variation on a theme. Smart, sly, sneaky etc.

LOL. Yes, Illya did look very good in that! Purr.

I was thinking it might have been a variant. Interesting to know! I wonder if there's any others.

Excellent topic! It would be nice to know where many 'fanon' concepts originated. The Pursang definitely came from St. Crispins, as well as Napoleon being a scotch-drinker, whereas on the show he drank a variety of mixed drinks.

Actually I think the name of Pursang for Napoleon's boat originated in one of the ACE novels, but [livejournal.com profile] st_crispins did make use of it popular.

We'll have to ask Cindy as she seems awful partial to that name. I gave her a little Christmas ornament of a sailboat with the name on it after I'd posted one on the Section 7 Christmas tree.

My first taste of MFU fan fiction was St crispin's. The original back stories were so well done, I thought it was the "real" backstory of the show. Those stories are pretty amazing tales!

Well she was friends with Norman Felton, so had an inside scoop in a way. Her stories are brilliant aren't they?

Absolutely. Interesting about the connection to Felton. Thanks for that little backstory!

I've used the Spike nickname as a joke in a story, since it was something Napoleon did use once in the show.

Actually "partner mine" is fairly new. I never saw it in any of the older stories, just in the ones by the newer fanfic writers. Frankly, it's one I don't like. And I also don't like the use of "chum". I never ever see Napoleon calling Illya that.

But then I also do not like the lastname of La Chien for Angelique. Yet that's so set in fanon, I go with the flow, though it just doesn't really work for me.

I agree with you completely about 'chum' 'partner mine' and Angelique's name. The first two IMO do not accord with my view of Napoleon. I think he's more cultured than that. As to Angelique, I've never heard of that surname here in france and i really think it sounds at the best fake, and at the worst rather crude.

I've considered a few times going with a different surname for Angelique, but the La Chien misnomer is just so set in fanon stone, that in the end I just sigh and let be.

Yes I can see the problem. I've only included Angelique as a character in one short story and I think I avoided using her surname, as I suppose the TV series did. I have referred to her occasionally but I try to avoid her usually. Of course Napoleon and her are on first name terms so surnames don't usually get in the way ....

The nickname 'Spike' was from 'Her Master's Voice;' right before Napoleon leaves the taxi and Illya stays in it? Isn't that where Spikesgirl got her user name?

I think she uses 'Spike' after the vampire Spike from the Buffy series. She does use his image as an icon now and then.
